on500 GE 1993 limited edition |
larger view There were absolutely no technical reasons to leave the front differential locker out - it was not even offered as an optional add on - it was simply a marketing decision. Mercedes figured that customers of the most expensive G ever built would never leave pavement and therefor not need a front diff lock. However, they missed one detail - the ABS off switch (only of advantage when off-road) remained left of the center diff lock switch. The much more sophisticated G500 (1998) offers three differential locks for full off-road capability - but sadly the ABS off switch was removed due to new government regulations. |
